Portfolio

Bryher Fire Station

IWe successfully delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and remediation project at Bryher Fire Station on the Isles of Scilly, involving extensive structural, roofing, asbestos removal, flooring, decoration, and building fabric improvement works. The project was undertaken to address life-expired building elements, remove health and safety hazards, prevent further deterioration of the property, and improve the overall condition and longevity of the facility.

The works included the licensed removal and disposal of asbestos-containing roof coverings, complete roof strip and recovery works, replacement rainwater goods, installation of new windows, external repairs and redecoration, replacement of suspended timber floors with a new insulated reinforced concrete floor slab, internal refurbishment works, flooring replacement, joinery repairs, drainage alterations, and associated mechanical and electrical upgrades.

One of the most significant challenges associated with the project was its remote island location on Bryher. Careful planning and coordination were required to manage the transportation of labour, plant, equipment, and materials to site, whilst working within restricted ferry and freight schedules. The project team was responsible for coordinating logistics for a workforce supporting a community of approximately 60 people, ensuring that materials arrived in the correct sequence to avoid delays caused by limited storage facilities and restricted access.

Additional challenges included managing weather-related disruptions, maintaining programme certainty despite transport constraints, and undertaking complex asbestos removal and structural investigations within an operational emergency services facility. Particular attention was required when exposing roof structures and replacing floor constructions, where further defects could only be identified once existing materials had been removed.

Through proactive procurement, detailed programme management, effective stakeholder communication, and close coordination with specialist subcontractors, we successfully completed the works whilst maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality control, and environmental compliance. The project demonstrates our capability to deliver complex refurbishment and construction works in remote and logistically challenging locations.

Chepping Wycombe parish Council Offices

We successfully delivered a comprehensive office alteration and refurbishment project for Chepping Wycombe Parish Council, involving structural modifications, internal remodelling, new partitions, drainage works, flooring, decorations, kitchen installation, and full mechanical and electrical upgrades. The project transformed the existing office accommodation into a modern, functional workspace whilst improving welfare facilities and operational efficiency.

A key element of the works involved structural alterations, including the installation of steel beams and padstones, requiring careful sequencing, temporary support measures, and close coordination with structural engineers and Building Control. Additional challenges included integrating new building services within the existing structure and maintaining programme requirements throughout the refurbishment.

The project was delivered in full compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM), with robust health and safety management, subcontractor coordination, and quality assurance procedures implemented throughout. Through effective planning and project management, the works were completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, providing a significantly enhanced working environment for the Parish Council.

33 Porthcressa - Kirkleese

We successfully delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and flat conversion project at Kirklees, St Mary's, Isles of Scilly, transforming the existing accommodation into modern, compliant residential units. The works included extensive internal strip-out and demolition, structural floor reinstatement, new fire compartmentation works, fire-rated doorsets, acoustic partitions, kitchen and bathroom replacements, internal finishes, and significant mechanical and electrical upgrades.

A key challenge of the project was its remote island location, which required careful procurement planning and coordination of materials, labour, plant, and specialist subcontractors around restricted ferry schedules and limited storage facilities. Additional complexities included upgrading fire compartmentation throughout the building, undertaking full electrical rewiring, installing new heating and ventilation systems, and ensuring compliance with current fire safety and residential standards within an existing occupied community setting.

The project was delivered in full accordance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM), with robust health and safety management, stakeholder coordination, and quality assurance procedures maintained throughout. Through detailed planning and effective logistics management, the refurbishment was completed safely and efficiently, providing high-quality residential accommodation for the Council of the Isles of Scilly.

We aim to keep our website as up to date as possible. Please note references for the above works can be provided upon request as can many more examples of our commercial work.
